MEET THE TEAM

Chief Executive Officer
One of CL’s founders, Zoravar currently runs the company as its CEO. With a background from the private sector’s Merrill Lynch and Accenture, he brings an investment banking and management consulting discipline to our work here. He has spent over six years in strategic advisory and IT consulting roles advising governments and financial services clients. He holds an MBA from Kellogg School of Management and a Bachelors of Commerce in Operations Management from the University of Alberta. Zoravar speaks Punjabi, Hindi and conversational French.

Executive Director of Health Systems
CL’s co-founder, Prabhjot serves as Community Lab’s Executive Director in addition to being the Director of the Program for Health Systems Development and Research at Columbia University’s Earth Institute. He has worked on national and multinational health scale-up programs and has experience with the International Rescue Committee, the UNDP and the Millennium Villages Project. Dr. Singh has a PhD in Neural and Genetic Systems from Rockefeller University as part of the MD/PhD program with the Weill Cornell Medical College. He was raised in Kenya and lives in Manhattan.

Executive Director of Finance and Implementation
Shash ensures that projects across CL’s platform are executed and delivered to order and deadline. He also comes to CL from the private sector, having experience in both private equity and audit engagement. At Price Waterhouse Coopers Singapore, Shash managed cross-cultural teams and interfaced with senior executives to handle both government and corporate audits. Afterwards, he developed infrastructure investment strategy at the London fund 3i Group. Shashwat holds a Bachelors in Economics (with honors) from the London School of Economics, a Masters in Economics and Finance from the University of Warwick and an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management.

Engineering Manager
Sneha facilitates engineering and technical development at CL. Prior to CL, she worked as a Systems Analyst and Lecturer in India’s LKCT Engineering College, and served as an IT Consultant for ProCaseo Healthcare Inc for her Capstone Program. Sneha holds a Bachelors in Computer Science from the University of Pune and an MS of Information Technology from Clark University.

Communications Manager
Adam handles marketing, branding and client deliverables at Community Lab. For someone whose college debate was to go into either media or global development, CL has been a fantastic fit. Before entering either field, Adam spent time teaching Oral and Written English at two major universities in Hangzhou, China. He returned stateside to his native Los Angeles and began working in film, first as a freelance video editor and then in the preproduction Story Department of Phoenix Pictures. Becoming interested in the platforms of media dissemination, he moved to New York and started working in website development while also building a freelance video editing and script doctoring business. Adam speaks French and basic Mandarin Chinese, and has a BA in History from Princeton University.

Senior Designer
Katie is CL’s graphic designer. Her background in multi-disciplinary design enables her to apply her skills to the array of CL’s needs. She has explored video art and production, web design and event coordination, working with a variety of companies including Georgia Public Broadcasting, Emory University and Urban Outfitters. In addition to CL, Katie is now beginning a non-traditional education in sustainable urban agriculture. She currently she resides in Brooklyn, NY where she strives to enrich the lives of those around her through intelligent design and forward-thinking problem solving. Katie has a Bachelors of Fine Arts from Savannah College of Art and Design with a focus in Industrial Design and Illustration.

Program Manager
Alaina oversees the projects for CL’s Implementation Systems team, where she produces deliverables and manages client relationships. She has spent time working in Uganda on a microfinance project, and at various nonprofit organizations on Monitoring & Evaluation models for microgrant and employee wellness programs. Alaina also has prior corporate experience in marketing and film that has empowered her to combine an analytical skill set with her creative gusto. Alaina holds a Bachelors in Fine Arts from New York University and a Masters in Social Work from Columbia University.

Fundraising Manager
Jeff sees to fundraising here at Community Lab. Prior to CL, Jeff served as Development Director for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, where he successfully grew a large corporate presence in their fundraising program to bolster the nation’s first Wellness Center for people with MS. Upon leaving the MS Society, Jeff spent five years overseas collaborating with an Italian international youth development program that focused on using sports, music and art to bring together children from around the world. He travelled to some fifty countries, stopping for volunteer projects in regions ranging from rural Romania to the mountains of Sikkim, India. Returning stateside for the 2008 Presidential Election, Jeff worked on now-Vice President Joe Biden’s Presidential Campaign in Iowa. He then again went abroad with Central Texas College providing educational counseling to US soldiers in Afghanistan. Jeff holds a Bachelors in Political Science from UC Santa Barbara.

Program Director
Shephali has long had a passion for marrying the strategic and operational ethos of the private sector with the mission-based goals of social sector work. At CL, she handles project monitoring and evaluation and is working to strengthen internal operations in general. Before coming to CL, Shephali co-founded the New York chapter of CharityFocus while also serving as CEO of KarmaTube.org, an online portal to inspiring videos. Prior, Shephali was Associate Director furnishing strategic marketing and data mining guidance at Scholastic Inc. She has also acted in quantitative research and analysis functions at Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs, Mathematica Policy Research, Inc. and Global Media Investment Banking at Salomon Smith Barney. Shephali holds a Bachelors in Philosophy and Economics from New York University and a Masters of Statistics from Columbia University.

Community Engagement Coordinator
Phi comes to CL with a background ranging from his studies in neural science and psychology at New York University to his youth development experience at the NYU Child Study Center. Aside from running the social media and community engagement projects at Community Lab, Phi is a working DJ who can often be spotted downtown at local music venues finding the newest acts to work with. Phi aspires to use music as a catalyst to bring together peoples from around the world to collaborate to create positive change in their communities and beyond.

Operations Manager
Krishna manages CL’s internal operations including accounting, human resources, legal and technology. Krishna holds a Bachelors in History from New York University and has been working with Community Lab since its inception. Krishna has had experience in administration and fundraising at several nonprofit organizations, in addition to having served as Co-Chair of the first annual NYU Global South Asia Conference

Director of Communications
Sonya manages CL’s Communications and Community Engagement efforts. She comes from advertising stock, having worked in copy at Lintas. She also has prior startup experience at an interactive branding and design agency, having taken on a variety of roles ranging from marketing and business development to supervising content and managing a web development team. She then made a long overdue move to the nonprofit space to work on Monitoring and Evaluation projects with an NGO in South India, as well as on the documentary Development at Gunpoint. Sonya headed back to school, earning a Masters in Nonprofit Management from The New School, during which time she completed an internship with the United Nations Development Programme and a capstone project with the United Nations Global Compact. She speaks a smattering of Indian languages and basic French.

Program Manager
Marissa is responsible for deliverables and client management for CL’s Health Department. Her work has ranged from fieldwork with the University of Bamako, Mali to helping develop a mathematical model analyzing malaria drug screening. She is excited to be applying her medical expertise at Community Lab where she can magnify her impact. Marissa holds a Bachelors in History from Yale University, an MPhil in Biological Sciences from the University of Cambridge, and an MD from Harvard Medical School.
